Building Clinical Confidence: Kody’s Student Placement at P4 Movement

At P4 Movement, we’re passionate about supporting the next generation of allied health professionals by providing opportunities to gain practical experience, develop clinical skills and build confidence in a real-world setting.

Recently, we welcomed Kody, a fourth-year Exercise Science and Rehabilitation student from the University of Wollongong (UOW), for his student placement at P4 Movement.

Working alongside P4 Exercise Physiologist Daniel, Kody has gained hands-on experience with a diverse range of clients, conditions and treatment approaches, helping prepare him for his future career in exercise physiology.

Turning Knowledge Into Hands-On Experience

For Kody, one of the most valuable parts of his placement has been the opportunity to put his university learning into practice.

From delivering exercises to clients with different conditions and abilities to conducting initial consultations and assessments, Kody has been actively involved in day-to-day clinical practice.

“P4 Movement has been by far the most valuable of my three placements.”

These opportunities have helped him strengthen his clinical skills, apply his theoretical knowledge and build confidence in his professional abilities.

Kody also highlighted the variety of experiences available at P4, with exposure to diverse client populations, treatment approaches and exercise sessions exceeding his expectations.

“I believe the practical experience and support I received at P4 Movement have been essential in preparing me to enter the exercise physiology profession.”

Making a Difference Through Client Connections

While developing clinical skills has been an important part of Kody’s placement, some of his biggest highlights have come from the relationships he’s built along the way.

Getting to know clients, hearing their stories and seeing their progress firsthand has been particularly rewarding.

“One of the most rewarding experiences has been seeing clients progress towards their goals and witnessing their excitement and sense of achievement when they recognise their own improvements.”

For Kody, these moments have reinforced the importance of building genuine connections and understanding what matters to each individual.

It’s also something he believes sets P4 Movement apart.

“I believe the P4 Movement difference lies in its professionalism, genuine empathy and commitment to client-centred care.”

He also recognised the value of P4’s multidisciplinary approach, where different allied health professionals work together to provide care tailored to each client’s needs, goals and preferences.

Learning With the Right Support

Throughout his placement, Kody has worked closely with his clinical supervisor, Daniel, receiving guidance, feedback and opportunities to take on greater responsibility.

Alongside hands-on clinical experience, dedicated feedback sessions and mock clinical scenarios have allowed him to practise initial consultations and further develop his confidence.

“Throughout my placement, I have always felt respected and supported by my clinical supervisor, who consistently valued my input and encouraged my involvement.”

For Kody, the combination of practical experience, encouragement and constructive feedback has been an important part of preparing to enter the exercise physiology profession.

As he approaches the completion of his Exercise Science and Rehabilitation degree at UOW, we’re pleased to have played a part in his professional development.

It’s been a pleasure having Kody as part of the P4 team, and we wish him all the best as he takes the next steps in his career!
