Student Placement at P4 Movement: Jack’s Experience

Student placements are an important part of what we do at P4 Movement. They give future allied health professionals the opportunity to put their university learning into practice, work with a diverse range of clients and gain experience in a supportive clinical environment.

Recently, we welcomed Jack, a fourth-year Bachelor of Exercise Science and Rehabilitation student from the University of Wollongong, to complete his placement with the P4 team.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Throughout his placement, Jack worked alongside P4 Exercise Physiologists Kaitlin and Daniel, gaining exposure to a broad range of clients, conditions and approaches to exercise and rehabilitation.

For Jack, one of the things that stood out most was the environment at P4.

“The P4 difference is the level of inclusion, organisation, care and understanding for clients, staff and myself as a student during my time here.”

Rather than simply observing, we aim to make our students feel like part of the team. This means creating opportunities to ask questions, develop clinical reasoning and experience as many different areas of practice as possible.

Jack particularly appreciated the effort made to expose him to different clients and conditions throughout his placement.

“I’ve felt very included and looked after throughout.”

Building Confidence Through Practical Learning

One of the highlights of Jack’s placement was the simulated learning he completed with his supervisors.

Simulated learning gives students the opportunity to work through scenarios, practise their skills and develop their clinical decision-making in a supportive environment before applying those skills with clients.

Of course, there was another placement highlight too — the lovely ladies in our Seniors Balance class!

Working with P4’s seniors gave Jack the opportunity to experience the community side of P4 while learning how exercise can be adapted to different abilities, goals and stages of life.

A Diverse Placement Experience

With a combination of gym, rehabilitation and allied health services under one roof, P4 provides students with exposure to a wide variety of people and presentations.

Jack described P4 as:

“A very warm and welcoming environment, with a large variety of clientele and resources provided to learn and engage with.”

His feedback reflects what we want student placements at P4 to be: welcoming, hands-on and genuinely valuable to the development of future health professionals.

We’ve loved having Jack as part of the P4 team and watching him build his knowledge and confidence throughout his placement.

We wish him all the best as he continues his studies and takes the next steps towards his career in exercise and rehabilitation.
